Door of Hope, CDC is a newly formed 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in Muskegon County. We work with single women and mothers, aged 18-26, who do not have a high school diploma and have experienced generational poverty and homelessness, inconsistent childcare, and problems maintaining stable employment.
We see a future of empowered women who are educated, supported, and confident to achieve their goals for life, work, and family.
Welcome to Door of Hope. My name is Lateasa and I am the founder of this mission-driven nonprofit that seeks to change the lives of young, single women and mothers finding themselves struggling to get ahead because of all that life has thrown their way.
After earning a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Psychology/Sociology, I then went on to earn my Master of Social Work degree. I am now a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with an Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor Certification. But this is only part of my story.
I began my journey as a young adult with limited family support. I had no plan for my future, and my only thought was to escape the broken life I had always known, filled with so much abandonment and rejection. I went on to become a single parent at a young age.
But the moment I found out I was pregnant, something ignited in me. I was determined to create a better life for myself and my child. I enrolled in college, and at times I felt the disappointments, fears, and setbacks I faced were insurmountable. But... I did not give up.
I believe that where you come from doesn't make you who you are. I believe that out of those tumultuous places, new life can spring forth offering a Door of Hope. So many young women are facing similar obstacles to mine, and I want to reduce the hindrances holding these women back from whatever success means to them. I believe every young woman deserves her chance, and I want to provide that through life skills training and other programs that will set a woman up for success.
Because let's be realistic - it's really hard to apply for college or a job when you don't have reliable transportation or childcare, besides working through the emotional challenges that so many young women face too. Whatever the barrier, I believe that Door Of Hope can provide the support and stability needed to empower these women so they can achieve their personal and professional goals.
Your donation today opens up a brighter tomorrow for someone who is turning their life around.
